The Pick-Up

We will pick you up after breakfast (8am-10am) at your hotel in Shiraz. During the 50 minutes drive to Persepolis, you can enjoy the view of the mountains and the rustic farms next to the road as you listen to traditional Persian music to warm up the mood.

Persepolis

This UNESCO listed world heritage site, used to be the capital of the Persian Empire. It has been described by historians as the wealthiest city under the sun. Although the city got destroyed and plundered by Alexander the Great in 330 BC, enough details have survived the 2 millenia thereafter because of geologic circumanstances (such as mud floods) to feel how this ancient city used to be the craddle of civilization. You’ll be blown away by the Gate of all Nations that used to welcome visitors, the wall paintings showing how tribes all over the world came to Persepolis to celebrate Norooz, the drawing of Persian soldiers that are interestingly unarmed, and the impressive stone grave of several generations of kings!

Necropolis

Then we’ll continue to the Naqsh-e Rustam, the ancient Necropolis. This stunning ancient site contains four colossal tombs from the kings of the Achaemenid Empire at a great height, carved into the rock face.

Mouthwatering Authentic Meals

By now you will be tired, so we’ll take a break at an authentic restaurant. We consider it a very important element of this tour to have a moment of relaxation and enjoy a mouthwatering dish in a beautiful Persian garden!

Tomb of Cyrus the Great

Then we continue to Pasargad, where we visit the tomb of the founder of the Persian empire, Cyrus the Great. Although the city around it has mostly crumbled to ruins, it is a proof of the deep respect people have for Cyrus the Great that over 2,500 years his tomb has remained so beautifully intact.

Drop-off

You can take the opportunity to buy a small souvenir gift at one of the many stalls, and then we head back again to Shiraz. You will be dropped off at your hotel around 5pm.
