We immerse ourselves in North Sulawesi with the Minahasa highlands, the stunning wildlife in Tangkoko, and the secluded pristine beaches far away from the crowd on our way from Manado to Gorontalo.
Tip: While Bunaken is renowned for its underwater beauty, it pales in comparison to Togian Islands, which we suggest to visit instead. Though harder to reach, the journey from Manado to Gorontalo — gateway to the Togians — is stunning.

A Final Note
The tourism in Sulawesi has fallen dramatically since several years. In 2018 a tsunami killed ca 2000 people and left ca 500.000 children without access to basic nutrition, health and education.
Then Covid-19 obliterated the little tourism left. When it appeared things couldn’t get worse, ca 15.000 people fled their homes in 2021, following a deadly earthquake in the Majene regency. And when tourism seemed to return in 2024, Mount Ruang erupted leading to a closure of the airspace in North Sulawesi.
So when you visit Sulawesi, you would not only make lifetime memories on this beautiful island… You’d support the local economy and make a difference to the lives of those that helped make those memories.
