To get most out of your Tana Toraja tour, it is recommended to stay overnight in Rentepao.

Here’s our recommended list for each price category. Each can be reserved online and canceled without any cancelation fee.

HERITAGE HOTEL $$$ ★★★★★ This is the most luxury hotel in town. It has a beautiful garden, an excellent excellent restaurant with a wonderful breakfast, and a swimming pool. Also, you can sleep in beautiful houses that are traditional from the outside and comfortable from the inside. Although it is relatively expensive for the area, it is still affordable for Western standards. This is our recommended hotel for anyone who can afford it. check it out
MISILIANA HOTEL $$ ★★★★★ With its beautiful traditional rooms and its strategic location in the south of Rantepao, this is the best hotel in the mid-range price category. Facilities include a restaurant with excellent breakfast, garden, swimming pool and ATM. Beware that not all rooms have airco. check it out
Indo “Sella” Homestay $ ★★★★☆ If you are low on budget or would like to spend some time with locals during your holiday, then try a homestay! There are many homestay options, and Indo ‘Sella’ Homestay is one of the better choices as it is run by a very friendly family with joyful kids. Although basic, you will have free WIFI, it is situated close to town and it has a nice garden. check it out

A True Treasure!
A True Treasure!

Me and my family first did an orangutan tour with LG in Kalimantan, and we were so incredibly amazed about the thorough (really unprecedented to me!!!) service and their positive mindset, that I decided to visit another location in which they also offer tours -> Tana Toraja. Wow! While everyone visits the casual burial sites, ...

A Week To Remember!

Sal and Budi advised me very well with a choice of itineraries and Yulius and Lia were the best guides. Once he knew my interests, Yulius planned three varied and interesting days and took me to a number of villages and burial sites round Rantepao; as well as attending a funeral, we visited a village ...

Highly Recommended to Take a Guide

I am a very low-budget backpacker and therefore I traveled through Tana Toraja for 2 days without a guide. However, I got the feeling that I was only visiting tourist places while my impression was that there was so much that the area offered which is why I decided to contact local guides. And I ...

Man ...

A Surprising Experience
A Surprising Experience

To learn about the Tara Toraja culture, the best option we took was to have Local-guides and with Budi, an excellent guide. It was a success from the beginning, until the end. The visit, of 4 days, was intense and did not leave us indifferent. The explanations, the landscape, its people and especially its culture, ...

Why you shouldn’t visit Tangkahan Elephant Sanctuary in Sumatra

Tangkahan is a remote village in Gunung Leuser National Park (Sumatra) and is famous for its elephant sanctuary. The elephants have in the past been used for logging trees. As the logging destroyed the rainforest and triggered stricter environmental regulations, elephant logging became illegal and locals were forced to look for new ways to make […]
